Mechanic Helper — Job Description
Job Summary
A Mechanic Helper assists mechanics with routine maintenance, repairs, and shop tasks. This role supports the team by preparing tools, moving vehicles or parts, keeping the work area clean, and helping with basic mechanical work under supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist mechanics with repairs and maintenance on vehicles/equipment
- Hand tools and parts to mechanics during jobs
- Perform basic tasks such as oil changes, tire checks, fluid top-offs, and battery replacement (as trained)
- Clean and organize tools, equipment, and work areas. Help lift, move, and transport parts and materials
- Inspect parts for damage or wear and report issues
- Keep records of work performed when needed
- Follow safety procedures and wear the required protective equipment
- Dispose of waste (oil, filters, etc.) according to shop/environment rules

Note: New Hires are eligible for Health, Dental & Vision Benefits within 30 days, working full-time (FT). Full-time (FT) employment is considered at 30 hours/week.
Job Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (preferred, not always required)
- Basic knowledge of tools and mechanical systems
- Ability to follow instructions and learn quickly
- Good teamwork and communication
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (often 40—75 lbs, depending on the shop)
- Dependable and punctual
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous shop experience
- Auto tech training or vocational coursework
- Driver's license (often required in many shops)
Work Conditions
- Work is performed in a garage/workshop environment
- Exposure to noise, grease, chemicals, and outdoor weather at times
- Standing, bending, lifting, and moving for long periods
